Good News, if you are planning to visit Kaziranga National Park

Kaziranga National Park-kaynatkazi-photography-2014-3448

As per The Shillong Times report, the Government of Assam has decided to throw open Kaziranga National Park (KNP), the famed abode of one-horned rhinoceros, for the visitors from October 1 this year instead of November 1. One of the state’s cabinet ministers Atul Bora informed that the national park which attracts maximum number of tourists — both domestic and foreign– in the state, would be opened from October 1 as per directive of the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. Usually, the park opens for tourists on November 1 and closes visitors on April 30 just before the onset of the summer season.

The Park authorities and the Assam Forest Department are now working overtime to restore the roads, bridges and other infrastructure inside the park that were damaged by devastating flood earlier this year.

Besides the rhino, Kaziranga National Park is home to tigers, elephants, buffaloes, spotted deer, hog deer, bear, varieties of reptiles, winged species, etc.

Located by the arterial highway that passes through the southern bank of Brahmaputra from the east to west of Assam, the Park is well connected through road, railway and air. (Source: travelbizmonitor.com/)

[caption id="attachment_7791" align="aligncenter" width="1200"]kathakali-centre-kochin-kerala-kaynatkazi-photography-2016-18-of-35 Kathakali a traditional art form, Cochin, Kerala[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_7792" align="aligncenter" width="1200"]kathakali-centre-kochin-kerala-kaynatkazi-photography-2016-18-of-35 An artist getting ready for the Kathakali performance[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_7765" align="aligncenter" width="1200"]Folklore museum Dedicated section for the masks in folklore-museum-Cochin-Kerala[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_7766" align="aligncenter" width="1200"]Folklore museum Traditional welcome at folklore-museum-Cochin-Kerala[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_7770" align="aligncenter" width="800"]Folklore museum, cochin, kerala Temple type Entrance-Folklore museum, Cochin, Kerala[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_7767" align="aligncenter" width="1200"]Folklore museum, cochin, kerala Architectural Marvel Folklore museum, Cochin, Kerala[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_7768" align="aligncenter" width="1200"]Folklore museum, cochin, kerala A paradise for antique lovers-Folklore museum, Cochin, Kerala[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_7769" align="aligncenter" width="800"]Folklore museum, cochin, kerala A paradise for antique lovers-Folklore museum, Cochin, Kerala[/caption]

Property review: Oceana wellness spa, Munnar, Kerala

[caption id="attachment_7746" align="aligncenter" width="1200"]Oceana wellness spa-Munnar-KaynatKazi Photography-2016 Traditional welcome-Oceana wellness spa, Munnar, Kerala[/caption]

Whenever I think about Kerala three things pops up in my mind- backwaters, tea gardens and Ayurveda massage. I have a fascination towards the holistic heeling & rich heritage of Ayurveda. I always look forward to pamper myself after a long tiring journey of photography. I work hard and I believe in indulge in luxury and relaxation as much as I can after a long day.

[caption id="attachment_7743" align="aligncenter" width="2048"]Oceana wellness spa-Munnar-KaynatKazi Photography-2016 Traditional Kerala Ayurveda-Oceana wellness spa, Munnar, Kerala[/caption]

Kerala Ayurveda massage and Panchkarma was on the top of my bucket list when I was preparing my itinerary for Kerala. The sight of the board of Oceana wellness spa in the lobby made me happier and I ticked another item on my list. It’s one of the well-known spa chain in the world. I decided to try the spa very first day so that I could rejuvenate myself and enjoy a relaxing massage. I was invited to review the spa, and trust me I had the best time of my life there.

[caption id="attachment_7744" align="aligncenter" width="2048"]Oceana wellness spa-Munnar-KaynatKazi Photography-2016 Gr8 ambiance-Oceana wellness spa, Munnar, Kerala[/caption]

THE AMBIANCE

It was a rainy day, rain made everything clean and beautiful, the whole resort was covered into the mist. When I entered in the spa I felt it was quite calm and relaxing with the fresh fragrance of lemon grass. The dim light of tea light candles were adding soothing effects to the ambiance. Before the selection of the treatment I had a long conversation with the spa manager. He described the treatments in details.

THE TREATMENT

They are offering a range of massages right from international massages like Swedish Massage Therapy, Aromatherapy Massage, Hot Stone Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, and Reflexology to Authentic Kerala Aurveda massages like Abhyangam, Ayurveda Panchakarma, Panchakarma, Shirodhara etc... followed by hot Steam Bath with eucalyptus aroma oil fragrance.

[caption id="attachment_7745" align="aligncenter" width="2048"]Oceana wellness spa-Munnar-KaynatKazi Photography-2016 Reflexology[/caption]

They also have a range of beauty treatments like body polishes, body wraps and facials for man & women.

I was asked to choose a therapy but trust me I got confused after getting to know the long list of the treatments so I asked the manager to give me best of the treatment of his choice.

I initially planned for 1 massage but got so much relaxation that I wanted to come again next day. The lady who performed the therapy was truly gifted with the ability to read a person’s muscles and body by touch. She understands the different pressure points, areas of stress very well.

[caption id="attachment_7748" align="aligncenter" width="2048"]Oceana wellness spa-Munnar-KaynatKazi Photography-2016 Shirodhara-A treatment to de-stress in the traditional Kerala Ayurveda[/caption]

I opt for the full body massage, and from the beginning felt like I'm out of this world. The lady used her fingers and hands to soothe my body muscles in a methodic way, and the touch of the warm Kerala herbal oil was marvelous. The whole session was so relaxing that made me sleep for a 15 min. She treated me of my back pain which had been troubling me for a very long time.

[caption id="attachment_7751" align="aligncenter" width="2048"]Oceana wellness spa-Munnar-KaynatKazi Photography-2016 The traditional Kerala Ayurveda at its best[/caption]

The best part of this whole treatment was the hot Steam Bath with eucalyptus aroma oil fragrance. I felt like I am getting rejuvenated from inside out.

They offered me green tea after the session. I definitely feel you should come and find out for yourself. Your body will love you afterwards. After spending two hours in the Spa I was calm, restored and rejuvenated for my next journey.

[caption id="attachment_7749" align="aligncenter" width="1200"]Oceana wellness spa-Munnar-KaynatKazi Photography-2016 Green Tea after the session[/caption]

The Kerala rejuvenation massage and treatment is excellent and must try for all. The Doctor and other staff are knowledgeable in their domains. They were also quite pleasant and courteous. Overall it was a great and valuable experience.

Property review: The Spice Heritage resort, Mattancherry, Kochi, Kerala

Experiencing traditions and cultural has always been on my priority list. I am often attracted to places and things of historical importance or those that have a story around it or a legacy behind it. India is a land where stories have been a source of teaching and educating the masses about the importance of a place or thing. There are in-numerable heritage properties, palaces and Havelis bearing testimony to our culturally rich land. Some of these structures have witnessed the eras of the emperors and a few have served the nobility. Whether one is travelling to Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh or Kerala, palaces, Havelis, summer palaces, bungalows etc. can be easily found here. The awareness to conserve and restore such heritage properties has also increased in the past few years. People have realized the importance of valuing and conserving the rich heritage that has been passed on through generations to them. I am quite happy as these efforts not only help to restore the old buildings but also give chance for enthusiasts like us to experience them. I have always fantasized to live like a princess and often wish I was born in a royal family to enjoy such luxuries. I also know this dream can’t be fulfilled in this lifetime but the only thing I could enjoy in this lifetime is the hospitality of these heritage properties for a few days.

Neemrana group of hotels is among the first groups to identify, restore and guests and tourists in these heritage properties. Today they have numerous such properties all over the country that have been converted into resorts and are most sought after not only for their hospitality but also for their legacy. I am taking you to a tour of one such property today- The Spice Heritage Resort. This resort is situated on Gujarati Road of Mattancherry, surrounded by Fort Kochi which is a major tourist attraction of the city of Cochin.

Mattancheery is a confluence of the cultures and traditions of Muslims from Kachch, Gujarat, Konkanis, Jews and Hindu businessmen from Gujarat who settled here centuries ago. With time the cultural traditions form the part and parcel of this place signified by numerous temples, mosques, churches and synagogues. As the name suggests Gujarati road symbolizes Gujarat so much that one feels whether one is visiting Kerala or Gujarat.

The place has a reputed Gujarat School and quite a few temples. Spice Culture Resort bears testimony to an important historical incident. This place was the abode of a joint Gujarati family and it is said that Mahatma Gandhi had stayed here for a night during his tour of Kerala. Late Shri V.H.M. Raffique was a businessman of Cochin and a social servant. He very well knew about the glorious past of this Haveli on Gujarat Road and also admired the beauty of it. In the year 1992 Late Shri V.H.M. Raffique bought this Haveli and decided to convert it into a heritage resort. Careful and conscientious efforts and hard work of years led to the complete transformation of the old Haveli. What once seemed like an old ruined building is now known as Spice Heritage Resort.

I am a traveller, hence I see a place with a totally different perspective. When I got the invite from Spice Heritage Resort, I did a little bit of research. I was impressed by the cultural vividness of Mattancherry. I wanted to experience the confluence of the varied cultures of the east and west. This place has Fort Kochi, which was the first colony of the Europeans in India and is equally influenced by Spanish, Dutch and Indian culture. It was the centre of trade and can be called a global village. Savouring the cultural treat of the place, I reached my destination on Gujarati Road. I received a warm and traditional welcome at the Spice Heritage Resort. The welcome drink too was a special preparation with the truly spicy essence of Kerala.

Architecture:

Spice Heritage resort still retains the look and feel of a palatial Gujarati mansion of yesteryears. On one hand modern amenities adorn this mansion with the original structure still existent. The architecture has Muslim as well as colonial influence. Large spacious room, tall roofs, long corridors, wooden work etc. transpose you to the British era. A small swimming pool and a Kerala Ayurveda Spa compliment the entire architecture.

The food especially South Indian dishes served here are delicious. On a 10 point scale, I would rate this Spice Heritage Resort with 9 points.  Dutch Palace, Parsi Synagogue, Jew Town, Spice Market, Boating and other tourist attractions lie in close vicinity of the resort. One can take an auto and reach any place conveniently.

A train to the land of buddha

"Buddham Sharanam Gachaami
Dhammam Sharanam Gachaami
Sangham Sharanam Gachaami"

In the Mahaparinirvana sutra, the Buddha tells his followers that they can attain merit and a noble rebirth by going on pilgrimage to the places where he was born (Lumbini), gained enlightenment (Bodhgaya), first taught (Sarnath), and attained Nirvana (Kushinagar).

India, the country where Buddhisim originated, still has rich reminiscence of the Buddhist legacy. As part of its drive towards austerity, the only kind of art and architecture that it supported were Stupas (stone cased moulds that commemorated relics of Budha), Chaityas (prayer halls) and Viharas (cells for the monks).

Come, discover the path to enlightenment with the Buddhist Circuit Special Train.
